You can report individual Direct Messages or entire conversations.
How to report an individual Direct message [more]
- Click into the Direct Message conversation and find the message you’d like to flag.
- Hover over the message and click the report icon when it appears.
- Select Report @username.
- If you select It's abusive or harmful, Twitter will ask you to provide additional information about the issue you’re reporting. They may also ask you to select additional messages from the account you’re reporting so we have better context to evaluate your report.
- Once you’ve submitted your report, Twitter will provide recommendations for additional actions you can take to improve your Twitter experience.

To report a Direct Message Conversation [more]
- Click into the Direct Message conversation you’d like to report.
- Click the more icon
- Select Report @username.

What happens when you report a Direct Message?
- Reported Tweets will disappear from your timeline.
- Reporting a Tweet does not automatically result in the account being suspended.
- Reported messages and conversations will disappear from your inbox and cannot be recovered.
How can I stop someone from sending me Direct Messages?
To stop receiving Direct Messages from someone:
- Locate the conversation from the account, and click or tap to open it.
- Click or tap the information icon (an i in a circle)
- Select Report.
- Confirm your choice. The account will not be able to send you a message until you send them a message first.
To block from a Tweet
- Click the downward arrow head icon located at the top of a Tweet from the account you wish to block.
- Click Block, and then select Block to confirm.
To block from a profile
- Go to the profile page of the account you wish to block.
- Click the more (three dots) icon on their profile page.
- Select Block from the menu.
- Click Block to confirm.
Blocked accounts cannot:
- Follow you
- View your Tweets when logged in on Twitter (unless they report you, and your Tweets mention them)
- Find your Tweets in search when logged in on Twitter
- Send Direct Messages to you
- View your following or followers lists, likes or lists when logged in on Twitter
- View a Moment you’ve created when logged in on Twitter
- Add your Twitter account to their lists
- Tag you in a photo
To mute Direct Message notifications
You can mute notifications for Direct Messages for 1 hour, 8 hours, 1 week, or Forever.
When you mute a Direct Message conversation, you will still receive new messages, but you won’t receive a notification each time.
How to mute from within a Direct Message conversation:
- Navigate to the Direct Message you’d like to mute.
- Click or tap into the message settings.
- Click or tap the information icon (an 'i' in a circle) then select Mute notifications.
- From the pop-up menu, select the mute time interval you’d like: 1 hour, 8 hours, 1 week, or Forever.
Note: To unmute, click or tap the information icon, then click or tap Unmute notifications.
